BACINA LAKES

These lakes are a perfect place to relax, read that holiday book or simply take in the surrounding beauty.  And of course it is a great place to swim and cool off.

There is a 10 km path that runs around the lakes and is suitable for both walkers and cyclists.  If you would rather take in the scenery from the water, take the opportunity to go on one of the private boat trips.  This tranquil experience takes place on one of the local Croatian boats, called a Lada.

MAKARSKA

The Makarska Riviera stretches 60km between the towns of Brela and Gradac.  In between each one you will discover lots of other beautiful towns and bays dotted along the coastline.  The main town of Makarska is a very popular destination for tourists.

It is a very scenic area, with beautiful beaches lined with pine trees that stretch sideways towards the sun. Set back from the beach you will find plenty of bars and eateries.

The harbour front is beautiful with lovely restaurant and bars lining the main street opposite.  And the backdrop of Makarska is amazing, with the huge Biokova mountain range staring down at you.  It is the second largest range in Croatia and its quite something.

All in all, we recommend Makarska for a good day out.  We often take a trip up there in the morning and stop off on our return for a late lunch at one of our favourite beach restaurants, ADRIANA, in ZIVIGOSCE-BLATO.

STON &
MALI STON

Ston and Mali Ston are located on the south side of the Peljesac Peninsula. These two towns are connected by what is known as the "The Great Walls of Europe" They are over 5km long, making them the longest defense structure in Europe. These walls are open to the public, though we suggest not to attempt the walk during the hotter parts of the day. (Something the hubby wished he had thought of before he set out with some friends.) The panoramic views at the top are worth every step, so don't forget the camera.

Mali (meaning little) Ston is well know for it's seafood, especially the mussels and oysters. There are plenty of good restaurants in both Ston and Mali Ston where you will find the best fish dishes. Little Ston is also renowned for its salt making, where to this day they still harvest the salt traditionally. The salt is available to buy in little sacks at the souvenir stalls/shops

This is another good day out, especially if you incorporate it with a stop off at Prapratno Beach on the way back. Here you will find a beautiful sandy bay with crystal clear waters. We love it there, especially out of season where you can find yourselves the only people on the beach.

BEACH

MOSTAR

Mostar's old town sits on the banks of the River Neretva and is approximately 40 km from the apartment. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in Bosnia, even though it had been partially destroyed during the civil war back in 1993.

With the famous bridge totally reconstructed, and its neighboring buildings restored, this area was put on the UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2005.

It is a lovely drive out to Mostar as Bosnia is a beautiful country.

SLIVNO -
RIZMAN WINERY

This beautiful winery sits on top of the Slivno hills.  It takes a bumpy 2km to get up there but, oh my, it is so worth the ride.  The views took our breath away the very first time we visited and they still do, time and time again - even on the rainiest of days.

The staff are second to none. Very knowledgeable and very hospitable. We never cease to be amazed by the kindness shown to their guests.  Hence why we take all our friends here.

Oh, and the wine is rather wonderful too.
